What Couples, Family and Parenting Therapy Covers

Relationship-focused therapy addresses the dynamics between people – how we communicate, how we respond under stress, how our patterns of attachment and conflict affect the people closest to us. It can be delivered with couples, families as a group, or individuals working on their relational patterns. The goal is always the same: healthier, more connected relationships.

Couples Concerns

Communication breakdown, conflict cycles, emotional distance, intimacy issues, infidelity, trust, and life transitions that put pressure on your partnership.

Family Dynamics

Family conflict, blended family challenges, sibling relationships, extended family stress, and the dynamics that develop when families go through significant change.

Parenting Challenges

Disagreements between parents, struggles with teenager behaviour, navigating a child’s mental health, discipline challenges, and building a strong co-parenting relationship after separation.

Separation, Divorce and Co-Parenting

Ending a relationship while protecting children, managing co-parenting conflict, and supporting children through family change.

Premarital Counselling

Proactive therapy for couples preparing for marriage – building communication skills, exploring values, and addressing potential areas of conflict before they become entrenched.

You don’t have to carry this on your own.

Better Relationships Are Built – Not Just Found.

The relationships in your life don’t have to keep causing you pain. Our Hamilton therapists bring evidence-based methods and genuine expertise to couples, family, and parenting concerns – helping you build the connection and cooperation you actually want.

Our Approach to Couples, Family and Parenting Work

Empire Psychotherapy is built on relationship-focused therapy. Our clinical director pioneered an attachment-based approach to couples work that has become the foundation of our entire practice. We are one of the only clinics in Ontario with this concentration of therapists trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – and we apply that relationship expertise across couples, family, and parenting work.

We understand that relationship challenges don’t exist in isolation. Individual histories, attachment patterns, trauma, and mental health concerns all shape how we relate to the people closest to us. Our approach addresses the whole picture.

Who We Work With

  • Couples – married, common-law, long-term, early-stage
  • Families with children at any developmental stage
  • Single parents navigating parenting and co-parenting
  • Blended families finding their footing
  • Individuals working on their relational patterns
  • Couples preparing for marriage or major life transitions
