What Is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy – also called one-on-one counselling or psychotherapy – is a private, focused process where you work directly with a registered therapist to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Sessions are tailored entirely to you: your history, your challenges, and your goals. Unlike group settings, individual therapy offers complete confidentiality and personalized attention at every step. Most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly, though frequency is always adjusted to suit your needs.

Anxiety and Stress

Racing thoughts, constant worry, panic, or chronic overwhelm – therapy provides practical tools and long-term strategies to break the anxiety cycle and rebuild calm.

Depression and Low Mood

Therapy helps you understand the patterns behind depression and develop skills to shift them so you can reconnect with the life you want.

Trauma and PTSD

Our therapists use trauma-informed approaches that help you process painful experiences safely, at a pace that feels right for you.

Relationship Challenges

Struggling with communication, trust, or recurring conflict? Individual therapy helps you understand your own patterns and build healthier connections.

Self-Esteem and Personal Growth

Navigating a major life change or simply want to feel more like yourself? Therapy supports meaningful, lasting growth – not just crisis management.

You don’t have to carry this on your own.

Qualified Help Is Closer Than You Think.

Empire Psychotherapy’s Hamilton clinic serves clients across the Greater Hamilton Area and beyond – with online sessions available province-wide. Our therapists have evening and weekend availability, so getting consistent support doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your schedule.

How Individual Therapy at Empire Works

Your first session is about getting to know you – your story, what’s been hard, and what you’re hoping to change. From there, your therapist builds a personalized treatment plan drawing on the methods that fit your needs best, including CBT, EFT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based approaches, and more.

If something isn’t working, we adapt. Your therapist will regularly check in on your progress and adjust the plan accordingly. Therapy at Empire is collaborative – your feedback shapes every step.

Sessions are 50 minutes and held in our professionally designed Hamilton clinic. Online sessions are available for clients across Ontario.
