Histrionic Personality Disorder
Individuals struggling with histrionic personality disorder display an excessive amount of emotion and engage in attention seeking behaviour in various aspects of their lives.
Symptoms (taken from the DSM 5).
Is uncomfortable in situations in which he or she is not the center of attention.
Often behaves in sexually inappropriate ways when interacting with others.
Displays rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions.
Consistently uses physical appearance to draw attention to self.
Has a style of speech that is excessively impressionistic and lacking in detail.
Is easily influenced by other or circumstances.
Considers relationships to be closer than they are.
In addition to these symptoms individuals struggling with Histrionic Personality Disorder may have trouble connecting emotionally with their partners. They may also have difficulty maintaining
friendships due to their provocative sexual behaviour and desire for a high level of attention. Further, individuals struggling with this disorder often seek instant gratification and struggle with situations where they need to wait for delayed gratification.
