What is a mental health disorder?
There is a tendency to apply our understanding of physical illnesses like cancer to mental illnesses. This leads to the misconception that some people get mentally ill, in the same unpredictable way some people get cancer.
1 in 2 people will experience a diagnosable mental illness.
Think less getting a disease, more growing up with a family that doesn’t do feelings and struggling in relationships because you can’t express yourself, which in turn leads to emotional avoidance and defensiveness. Mental health involves clear cause and effect that can be resolved with therapy.
